In a 24 hour span starting 11 pm Friday nite, I played in 7 ultimate games. WIth our friday nite indoor league + then saturday's open not in las vegas indoor tourney.

Friday nite was against some Sub vets. 11 pm is way too late. We only had two women so at first I was worried we might be in trouble. But then we just had them guard Severt, so pretty ez. I had several turns in this game and did some other things, but we won 13-6. And now there are some rankings up and we are 4th even though we just beat 3rd.

So Saturday at 9, we played in the indoor tourney. We had about 15 guys, but never more than 11 and never less than 8 or 9.

First game was against Masters-Fall league team. Game started at 9 am, luckily we had 5 there at 9am. And then 5 more by 9:05. In what turned out to be a theme of the day, we were down 4-1. Crawled back into it and then sprinted home something like 13-6. I believe the other team got mad at me when I skiied the shorter woman on their team. Although she switched on to me during the throw. I thought I was a gentleman. Oh and then I broke her for a score.

Second game was against TBA, the periennal pick up team in Minneapolis. Recently it has been fun to play them b/c they get mad at each other very easily. But this time it was just a drubbing. It is fun to watch arguments. Ummmmm,

Third game was against some St. Olaf guys, some non-st. olaf guys, and some guys from a high school. We were down 4-1. My favorite player on the team was the kid in the khaki pants that did not change speed at all throughout the game. And I am not talking about high speeds. I am talking about level 1 on George's workout speed.

After a lengthy bye and watching the Zach Puchtel led Gophers. We played the Hopkins high school team. I had some errands to do, so I did not get to participate, but we will come back to high school team soon.

So, we go 4-0, and play the U of M b team and some alumni in the quarters. They got up like 1-0 or 2-0 or something of that nature. But eventually the game went out of reach. Highlight of the game for me was skying Harry Potter and then spiking on him. Good times. SOme people on the sidelines started calling me Lord Vladimir or something. Apparently, he is the evil guy in the Harry Potter books. It is always good to sky someone 6 inches shorter.

The next hour we had a bye and watch the other quarters. This was the upset round where both 3 seeds beat the 2 seeds. The flaming moe guys lost to the team we played first. And the hopkins high school team beat the olaf + olaf alum teams. Very impressive to watch. The hopkins team has about 7 or 8 pretty solid duders. Their o was fairly impressive and I do not think the olaf guys broke them at all. I feel like I was watching the future of sub zero, well, assuming they stay around the cities and thinking to myself, I hope they let me play. It was fun to watch and in a 5-on-5 setting, they could excel. They won something like 11-8 or so taking down the Truesdale/Cram Olaf team. ANd Hamline' sprediction from the morning was true, Hopkins in the semis.

Then the semis, we now played the Hopkins team again. They were pumped to start. Up 2-1 on some nice long throws by them. Shortly afterwards, the nrg of the quarters victory started to wear off. I am sure it was all our experience, but they started not completing hucks and dropping stuff and being tired, I think it was past their bedtime. Most importantly I was able to sell some fresh new sub zero hats to the kids. 15:1 shot one of them makes our team.

So the finals, we played a CLX/IOWA/Liquid Assets team. I guess most of them were from CLX, but I would not know since I have never seen them play. They came out on fire and I came out throwing the disc away. It was sweet. They went 4-1, so the 3rd time we were down like that, except these guys were pretty good. and we had trouble stopping their huck. And I had trouble completing passes or we had trouble catching the disc in bounds. It was a struggle. Down 4-7, we push it to 6-7 and I have a wide open backhand to Boardman that I throw out of bounds. So we do not tie the game. After some more 3 stooges ultimate, it was 8-10. We score to make it 9-10. We finally were forced to play d. Stop their huck. I was guarding their deep guy and it felt like they would just wait for him to burn me deep. And sometimes he would. And other times they would misthrow it.

Anyway, back to 9-10, cap goes on, which means we score, one more point. They score, game over. We play good d, force a blade turnover. I run a give-n-go with Andy Dikeman and bomb it away to a wide open RG. With a wide open CY underneath. 2 open guys. I throw it out of bounds! If I had a 3rd chance, I guarantee the game would have been tied.

Needless to say, they scored that goal and now we have gone 2 winters without an indoor tournament W. Truesdale + Cram were happy b/c we had been giving them a hard time about losing to high schoolers. And now they could tease us about losing to co-eders and people from Iowa. A double whammy!

SO yeah, I had to recover from that.

T-web saying maybe my indoor ultimate career is on the decline. I should have reitred after groundhog day in 99.

Oh, I did get into one interesting discussion with a defender in this finals game. When I pick up the disc, I will at times hold the disc in 2 hands about 2 or 3 inches from my body (more than disc space). Now, if he bumps into the disc and then me, that should be a foul. Even though I have more than disc space, I have claimed a legitimate position and done so without fouling him. He then bumps me and claims all he has to do is give me disc space. I disagree with that. Am I wrong here? (He also started bumping me on pivots, but that is another story).

Incidentally, I did not call the foul, just asked him not to bump me. And he was a little angry with me to start.

And then I watched the Steelers/Referees play the Seahawks.... I don't really think the Steelers can complain about the colts refs anymore.

And IM bball starts. I thought the b division was not supposed to be that good. Turns out my team just isn't good.

I think you are entitled to a couple more inches of disc space since your chest is sunken. For example, if you held the disc against your rib cage, which juts out prominently, you would get that extra space. I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
